The Great Firewall of China

snn1.JPGChina - As the June 4th Tienanmen Square Anniversary approaches, Chinese authorities have shut down social networking sites in an alleged attempt to block widespread information regarding the incident.  According to an ABC News report, key dissidents are under house arrest or have been forced to leave [Beijing] until after the fourth.

Qin Gang, China’s government spokesman, says the Chinese people see no need to revisit the Tienanmen Square incident and emphasized recent economic growth.

Among the list of blocked online networking sites are: Youtube, Twitter, Blogspot, Flikr, Livejournal, Tumblr, Microsoft Live, and about a dozen others.
